6 Creative Ways To Display Your Photographs

Crafts, Decor, Photography

As a lover of photography I’m always looking for ways to jazz-up and display my photos. With my unhealthy obsession with Pinterest I’ve recently managed to find some fun and great ways to use photographs. Here are my favourites…

1.  Visit one of your favourite places and take as many photos as you want, and create a photo montage with them when you get home. This is a great and alternative way to remember somewhere that is special to you as you can frame it and display it around the house.

2. ‘Graffiti’ your photographs. Why not write onto your favourite photos as a reminder of where you were, who you were with, and how you felt at the time. So many people see photos as precious objects and are too scared to alter them in any way. By writing, or even kissing on the photo it will remind you of just how special it is and what it means to you when you next see it.

3. Polaroid snaps are one of my favourite forms of photography. I love how you can’t alter them in any way and they are taken in an instant. Unlike digital photos which can be edited and deleted, a polaroid really does encapsulate a moment in time. A great way to display your polaroid pictures within the home is by using colourful sticky tape.

Use the tourist map from the place you've visited. Then, put the most memorable picture from the trip in the center.

4. I love this idea so much! A great way to capture a place that means something to you is to include a map within framed photographs. You could include anything from the place you got married, your first holiday with friends, or your family home.

5. I love the idea of using black and white photography with colourful pressed flowers. It creates a pretty photograph with a vintage feel. A great way to display photos of sisters and friends.

6. Why not try creating a heart collage with old photographs? This is so simple and easy to do, and yet looks so beautiful. I think Instagram photos would really look good displayed in this way.

Festival Style Wish List

Fashion, Summer

Blog

For a girl, one of the best things about going to a festival is shopping for your outfit. The good thing about festivals is you can get away with wearing wacky, eclectic and colourful clothes without being judged. In fact, the wackier you look the better! Here are a few of my favourite festival must-haves of this year…

1. The tie-dye peace T-shirt . Perfect for embracing your hippy side and for keeping cool when the days get too hot.

2. The flower headband. In my opinion this is the ultimate festival accessory and it looks great with any outfit.

3. Black Doc Marten boots. As well as being a cool fashion statement, these will keep your feet comfy as you dance all day.

4. Leather brown rucksack. I want one of these so bad! Rucksacks are a great way of carrying your belongings around with you all day.

5. Flower crop top. In fact any crop top will look good at a festival, whether it’s with denim shorts, dungarees, or maxi skirts. Although not a great thing to wear if your self conscious of your tum like me (I better start working on my sit-ups!)

6. Tie-dye denim shorts. Denim shorts are great to wear at festivals as they’re comfy and will keep you cool, and with a little tie-dye they look nice too!

7. Hunter wellingtons. They’re cool and will keep you dry and mud free if the heavens decide to open on you (which will almost certainly happen if you’re in England). My favourite are the red!

8. Feather head-gear. This, along with any other head gear, is great if you want to get into the festival spirit.

9. Ray Bans. These are a must if the suns is out. In my opinion, colourful Ray Bans like these turquoise ones, are a great buy if you want something a little different to your standard aviators.

10. Neon tribal skirt. Great to wear at night at a DJ-dance party.

11. Dungarees. In my opinion, these all the best things to have this summer. When I have these on I feel like I’m back in 1998.

12. Sport T-shirt. All the rage this summer, these T-shirts look great with anything from dungarees to Doc Martens.

But most of all, if you’re going to a festival this summer, as well as looking great make sure you have a laugh and have fun!

Festival Style 2013

Fashion, Summer

Summer has arrived and the festival season is now upon us! I was lucky enough to go to Latitude this summer but I’ve also been checking out the TV coverage of this year’s Coachella and Glastonbury. Instead of being impressed with all the music acts, I can’t get enough of all the celebrity fashion eye candy.  Festivals and fashion go hand-in-hand, and I’m sure I’m not the only girl out there who would meticulously plan her festival outfits weeks before the event. Here are a few of my favourite celebrities who rocked on the style front at this year’s festivals…

Latitude 2013

Summer

On the 18th July, my boyfriend and I decided on a whim to go to Latitude festival in Southwold. As we both live in Suffolk, the festival which is situated in Henham Park, is only an hours drive from home. Having never been to a festival before (crazy I know! I’m 22 for god sake!) I didn’t really know what to expect. However, the whole weekend was amazing and I’m glad we didn’t miss out!

Who we saw: The Maccabees, Daughter, The Villagers, Jessie Were, Foals, Bloc Party, Sean Walsh, Liam Nelson, Eddie Izzard, Carole Ann Duffy, Rudimental, Disclosure, Alt-J, Richard Ashcroft, Hot Chip.

10 Highlights:

Waking up in our tent to a crate of free Lucozade

Singing along to Bittersweet Symphony with Richard Ashcroft

Rave in the woods

The Maccabees playing as the sun was setting

The comedy tent

The colourful sheep (their wool was dyed with natural colours)

The ‘Three Things…’ tree (people had to write down three things that made them happy and tie them to the branches of a tree)

Drinking beer and cider on the grass

The free newspaper and toast in the morning

The hippy stalls and tents

And things that were more like lowlights…

The long trek from the site to our tent. And trying to find our tent in the middle of the night!

The she-wee tent. That is a sight and smell I would really love to forget!

And of course, the lack of showers

However, will I be going again next year? Of course!

Hello August

Life, Summer

58d9f8e6f860144625aa6044384111f3

I’ve been so bad at posting recently and have really neglected my blog. If I said I’d been swamped at work and have been really pushed with time I’d be lying. The truth is I’ve been going through a blogging dry spell and have found it really difficult to find inspiration for my posts.

Therefore I’ve decided to re-vamp my site and as you can see it’s been renamed to ‘Made by Katie’ (I hope you like it!).  Now this will hopefully give me the motivational push I need to write daily posts. I must admit it’s been very refreshing thinking of a new name and I’m really excited to get started!

Happy August!

Quirky Teapot Ideas

Crafts, Decor, Wacky

Due to my ridiculous obsession with teapots I’ve spent many hours on Pinterest and Tumblr, searching for the perfect one. I’ve discovered that there is a lot more you can do with the lovely creations other than drink tea. Here are a few little gems I’ve come across…

1. The perfect afternoon tea

Obviously the best way to use a teapot is to make a really good cup of tea. Now that the weather is getting warmer, having a tea party/picnic is the best way to spend time with friends

2.  Teapot Vase

I came across this a couple of months ago and thought it was a great idea. Instead of using normal vases, why not use teapots to display flowers.

3. Teapot plant holders

If you’re into your gardening this is an interesting way to plant your herbs and flowers. Using mix-matched teapots and displaying them on window-sills looks great.

4. Retro camper teapots

I’ve fallen in love with these (especially the one in the middle) and really want to know where I can get them from! Retro teapots are great for weekends away or if you go camping.

5. Decorative teapots

The easiest way to use a teapot is simply to display it  as a way of decorating your home. I particularly liked this wall as it shows how you can use colour to create a fantastic display. dd979129bcb8851d3988275f85b30b11

6. And my favourite!

I’ve just included this because I absolutely love it. An elephant teapot? What’s not to love? If I owned this I’d simply use it to store trinkets and jewellery.fbe88b7cc0e7f8d437057d992df28fcf

Top Six Summer Films

film, Summer

The recent sunshine and warm temperatures have been a reminder of how the summer is finally on its way, and I for one, cannot wait. It will soon be time to leave the confines of my sofa (that was oh so cosy during winter), give my pasty legs some air, and frolic in the great outdoors (cue excited squeal). But for now, as I impatiently wait, here are a few of my favourite films that always remind me of summer-time.

Grease grease_1900014b Danny. Sandy. Kenickie. Frenchie. I grew up loving the whole gang…and wanting to be a member. The songs, the teenage love story, the bad boys, and the tight pants make this cult-classic the perfect summer flick.

The Beach The-Beach-movie-mf02 Danny Boyle’s indie classic about the pursuit of paradise has been the popular summer-flick of choice for years. I dare you to watch this and not feel an urge to want to travel and find your own deserted beach. A young and very hot Leonardo makes it all the more enjoyable.

Eat Pray Love Travel Trip Eat Pray Love This semi-autobiographical story of an ordinary woman who decides to start a new life and travel the world is perfect for a nostalgic summer afternoon. The exotic locations will help to cheer you up if you can’t afford a summer holiday this year. After watching this I seriously considered jetting off to India and entering an Ashram. (Crazy I know).

Parent Trap 1_parent_trap This film never fails to remind me of childhood summer holidays. Because of this I always wanted to be a twin, and an American kid at summer camp. No matter how hard I wished for it to happen, it never did.

Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog-Millionaire-0026

Another Danny Boyle classic, this film (in my opinion) is bloody brilliant. With a clever storyline, loveable characters, and an insight into real-life India; Slumdog Millionaire is the perfect thing to watch to get you in the mood for summer.
